Community Education

Southern Hancock is dedicated to providing for patrons of all ages,  quality and affordable classes that enrich the mental, physical, and social aspects of life, and foster in our patrons the value and importance of life-long learning.

The following programs are currently available to the community through our Community Education Programs:


New Palestine High School's Community Education Program, in conjunction with A.A. Indiana Driving School, will be offering three sessions of Drivers’ Training during the second semester. These classes will meet as follows:

  • Session One Day Class – February 5 to February 16 – Ten Days
  • Session Two Day Class – May 7 to May 18 – Ten Days
  • Night Session – April 2 to April 19 – Twelve Days

Day classes meet Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for ten days. The night class meets Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for twelve days.

All classes meet at New Palestine High School in room 1225. All classes include six hours of individual behind the wheel driving experience. 

Cost of each class is $375.00.

All students participating in Driver's Training must be at least 15 years of age by the start date of the class.  All classes are limited to 25 students, and enrollment will be on a "first come, first served" basis. All registrations are done by phone and secured with a credit card.

New Palestine High School's Community Education Program is pleased to announce that an SAT Prep Class will be offered during second semester. This class is designed to help improve the SAT scores of those students who plan to take the new SAT during later this year. The class will meet February 26, 27, 28, and March 1 from 4  p.m. until 6 p.m. at NPHS. The cost of the class is $25 per student. The class will be limited to 30 students so early registration is encouraged. Registration forms may be picked up in the main office or the guidance office. Completed forms and fee payment are to be turned in to the main office. For additional information, please contact Lee Collier, Director of Community Education at lcollier@newpal.k12.in.us.


Another year of Men’s Open Gym basketball starts on January 9, 2018. Open gym is held on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Sugar Creek Elementary School from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Cost is $5.00 per night, and no pre registration is necessary.  For more information, contact Dave Sellers, Open Gym Supervisor at 317-861-4426.
