USDA Approves Free Breakfast and Lunch for All CSCSHC Students

CSCSHC and USDA Logos

A new waiver from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture will allow all CSCSHC students to receive free breakfast and lunch at school each day. All Southern Hancock cafeterias will provide free meals beginning on Thurs. Sept. 17. The waiver expires on Dec. 31, 2020.

Federal guidelines define a meal to be made up of specific food components. Breakfast consists of an entree, fruit, and milk. Lunch consists of an entree, a choice of fruit and/or vegetables, and milk. All students attending school in-person or virtually have the opportunity to receive both of these meals for free each school day.

NOTE: A la carte items, such as additional entrees or drinks and snacks, fall outside the parameters of the waiver. There will still be a cost for these items.

Virtual families: Please complete this form to request a five-day meal pack for each student enrolled in the virtual program 5 p.m. each Friday. Pick up will be available at your student's assigned school. You will receive further instructions from your school's cafeteria staff.

Families who wish to enroll in the free and reduced lunch program to receive other educational benefits, such as textbook fee assistance, must still be enrolled in the program for these benefits to take effect.

Any specific questions regarding food service can be shared with CSCSHC Director of Food Service Charissa Igo at cigo@newpal.k12.in.us.
