Southern Hancock Education Foundation, Inc.

SHEd LogoWelcome to the Southern Hancock Education (SHEd) Foundation, one of 63 education foundations in the state. Our mission is to promote and support quality public education in Brandywine and Sugar Creek Townships. We are committed to enriching the educational experience of all students within the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County. Our work focuses on three critical areas along with a special community collaborative project.

TEACHER MINI-GRANT PROGRAM: This program focuses on supporting innovation in the classrooms of our schools. Each year teachers are invited to apply for a mini-grant. Grant awards usually range from $200-500. During the 2017-18 school year, the foundation was able to provide full or partial funding for each of grants submitted by our great teachers.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDING: The foundation is proud to join the school corporation in funding ongoing professional growth opportunities for teachers, staff, and administrators. We strive to provide a PD grant to each school twice a year.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT/DUAL CREDIT FEES: A part of the keys to excellence in our high school are the opportunities students have to participate in courses that are rigorous, advanced, and often offer college credit. To help ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate, we offer scholarships to cover the fees for registration or assessments for students who need financial help in that area.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI PROGRAM: The foundation is excited about this new opportunity for New Palestine High School alumni. Working alongside the New Pal Alumni group and the school corporation, we plan to kick-off the first Distinguished Alumni Award program later in 2019.

When you look at our community, consider what attracts people to New Palestine or what has kept numerous families here for multiple generations. For many, it is our great public schools. We at SHEd don’t want this to change. Historically, state and local funding has been sufficient in meeting the needs of public schools. In order to maintain the high standards that have resulted in a “Community of Excellence”: Indiana Department of Education letter grade of “A” for the corporation, a National Blue Ribbon School honor for our high school, and numerous 4-Star School distinctions, we as a community need to be more involved.

The SHEd Foundation needs your support. You can help out in several ways!

Make a tax-deductible gift to the SHEd Foundation. Your gift can be made to fund the foundation’s ongoing efforts with teacher mini-grants, professional growth opportunities for staff, and scholarships to cover student fees for Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses. Your gift can also be designated to grow our Endowment Fund.  Please contact the Foundation at SHED@cscshc.org for directions on making an endowment gift.

The SHEd Foundation welcomes community members, parents, and staff to join the foundation board. The Board meets monthly throughout the school year on the last Thursday of the month, 6:30 PM at the Administration Office.  In addition to the Board meetings, board members are active in supporting our fundraiser events like the annual Foundation Gala. Board members also represent the foundation in community and school events like the New Pal Summer Fest, the New Palestine High School Alumni Association, and a variety of school activities.

Join us in our pursuit of educational excellence.
